The Visual Arts Intensive
The Visual Arts Intensive balances between instructional hours spent with professional artists/teachers and open studio time as young artists in residence at Oxygen Art Centre. This intensive includes, and is not limited to, the following art practices : Drawing, Street Art, Assemblage Sculpture, Art History, and Printmaking. A final group exhibition will be designed and curated by the group and held at Oxygen Art Centre during the last weekend of the intensive - July 29 to the 31st. This exhibition will include an opening reception and open gallery hours for family, friends, and the local community to view the show and celebrate your hard work.
What you can expect
The intensive runs from Monday to Friday for four weeks. You can expect to attend between 3-4 hours a day, minimum - with possibilities for more studio time, as needed by you and pre-arranged with your mentors. Time will be spent in the studio creating art collaboratively and as individuals, watching art focused films, having discussions, viewing artist work through slides or in person in local galleries or artist's studios, making art in the community, experimenting with new concepts and methods, and playing!
Who you are
Passionate about the arts; dedicated to learning more and exploring your ideas and the ideas of others through making, doing, thinking: between the ages of 15-18, BC resident, Wanting to connect with other young artists.
Registration Fee: $90 (this covers materials, admin costs, and extra mentor hours. Registration Fee should be paid upon registration.

As a joint-venture with 'The Art Farm'* and the Sunshine Coast Conservation Association**, Pollinate will bring together SelfDesign High learners with artists and other mentors for a 8-day intensive project offering course credit and the chance to learn leadership, communication, media, visual and performing arts skills, and more!

at the Nelson Legion.
You will put together a play,
and perform it
in front of family, friends and total strangers.
This two weeks of theatre fun begins August 1st runs Monday to Friday and ends with performances on Friday and Saturday
August 12th and 13th.
There will be many university level students with lots of theatre experience
to help Richard help you
to build a set, make costumes
and present a short play.

FILM CAMP with Amy Bohigian
SENIOR DIRECTOR’S SEAT: 13-18 year olds
Earn 4 high school credits through SelfDesign High. For Grade 10, 11, 12 participants who reside in BC.
July 4-15 , Monday to Friday, 9AM-3PM
$350 for participants going into Grade 10, 11 and 12 who reside in BC.
$550-750 sliding scale for all other participants.
During the first week of this hands-on program participants pitch, script, direct, and produce their own short films using professional camera and sound gear. Once production is complete, the focus turns to editing, where participants learn advanced editing techniques using Final Cut Pro and create an original soundtrack using Soundtrack Pro. A short internship is made available during the second week for participants who would like to work alongside a professional filmmaker to gain experience on the set or in the field. An emphasis on collaboration, responsibility and critical thinking run through all aspects of this intensive two week program. Participants do not need any gear or equipment to participate.
HIGH SCHOOL Learners – READ THIS CAREFULLY
Those participants who want to earn high school credit must register for the course with SelfDesign High and through Selkirk College/Kootenay School for the Arts. Follow steps here:

Step One
for participants that are new to SelfDesign High you must first enroll in theschool (this does not effect your current school enrollment.) Visit http://selfdesignhigh.org/enroll.html or call 250 354-1310 to enroll.
Step Two
Register for the film camp program. Enrollment at SelfDesign High is not the same as registering for a particular course, such as film camp.
Step Three
Register for the film camp program through Selkirk College/Kootenay School of the Arts. Call the office at 352-2821 to ensure you are on the list for the program. They will also take your payment. If you have enrolled and registered with Self Design High your payment for the program will be $350. Please inform the administrative staff with whom you register that you have already contacted SelfDesign High.
