Animate Earth is a documentary film written and presented by Dr Stephan Harding, renowned ecologist and colleague of James Lovelock. Stephan puts forward a radical approach to the ecological crisis by arguing that many of the problems we now face stem from having lost our intuitive relationship with nature. Stephan believes that traditional mechanistic science has inadvertently fueled the crisis and that we urgently need to develop an expanded science that cultivates intuitive wisdom alongside rational knowledge so that we can experience everything, from the smallest microbes to our planet’s great life-sustaining cycles, as deeply interconnected. Building on the revolutionary discoveries of James Lovelockʼs Gaia Theory, Stephan goes one step further and explores opportunities to heal our relationship with the Earth through the new discipline of holistic science. The film features interviews with leading environmentalists, scientists and spiritual leaders, including Brian Goodwin, Iain McGilchrist, Fritjof Capra, Vandana Shiva, Jules Cashford and Satish Kumar.
Encore Screenings Jan 12th at SDH in Nelson: Conceiving Family and Rural Transcapes
After such a great response and turn out at the premieres of both Conceiving Family and Rural Transcapes, Watershed Productions will present a second screening of both films!
Screening Rural Transcapes at 7PM and Conceiving Family 8PM Thursday, January 12th at SelfDesign High, 412 Victoria Street – 2nd Floor of Legion Building, Nelson BC
Tickets are only $10 at the door and there will be a brief Q&A after each screening. You can come to watch one or both films.
Conceiving Family follows (Director/Producer) Amy Bohigian and her partner, Jane Byers, as they adopt biracial 15 month-old twins, Franny and Theo. Their journey to becoming a family, like the other four same-sex couples, is laden with challenges, including confronting the Christian Fundamentalist foster parents who express fear that the children they’ve cared for since birth will now, “grow up to be gay” with parents who are “going to hell for their sins.” Required to live together for two weeks during the kids’ transition they confront their differences in the most surprising ways. Combining personal interviews, intimate footage, and family photos, Conceiving Family tells the collective story of what it takes to become an intentional family.
Rural Transcapes is a topical film that profiles four transgendered individuals who have chosen to live in the rural area of the Kootenays. Christopher Moore is one of the people featured in the film and is the founder of the Trans Connect program, which provides outreach services to transgendered folks around the East and West Kootenays. Amy Bohigian of Watershed Productions was asked by Christopher last year to create an educational tool and the result is this 30 minute film, which delves into the difficult and inspiring stories of courage and authenticity. The film also features Dr. Chris Cochrane and Dr. Esta Porter, two medical professionals based in Nelson who work directly with the transgendered community. At a time when Chaz Bono has made transgendered a household word, let this event create a deeper appreciation of what it truly means for the folks featured in the film.
