For the Love of Learning
The New Year has arrived, and ISK is ready to meet the change to launch with success into 2007! As many of you are aware, we have sold our school building at 711 Tenth Street in Nelson, BC. and we are now focusing our energies on having our curriculum ready to be approved by the BC Ministry of Education, Independent Schools Branch by early summer. This approval will allow the school to launch as a fully accredited BC Distributed Learning High School!
For the past 2 years ISk has been working to open at the 711 Tenth street campus, offering a peace centered liberal arts Waldorf high school curriculum to local and international students. Many international students have been interested, yet the 10 BC resident students that we needed to open as an BC Independent school did not register. When we asked the students in our community why they were not registering, the answers were always the same:
– they wanted the larger social context of the local public high school
– the students wanted the school to be able to offer certified high school courses, and a BC Ministry of Education Dogwood Diploma.
– the students wanted to be able to take credit bearing courses with us as part of their high school program.
With our change in orientation to a distributed learning high school we will be able to offer students what they have been asking for, and will be a direct answer to the struggles that we have been facing for the past 2 years- having enough registered students to move ahead.
This blog site is our invitation to all of your to join with us in an on going conversation about education, what your experiences are, what you are longing for, and how our plans are progressing.
We look forward to hearing from you.
Best wishes for a glorious new year of 2007,
the ISK Board
