About Us
Inspired by the global education initiatives of United World Colleges and the international movement of Waldorf schools, SelfDesign High is a distributed learning high school with a Liberal Arts and Peace Studies foundation. We offer student-centred, enquiry-based programs which include the entire BC grade 10-12 high school graduation program as well as a diversity of dynamic independent studies and community initiatives....
SelfDesign High has its nexus in beautiful Nelson, BC, Canada, but its reach is global. We are actively cultivating links with schools across Canada and all around the world.
At SelfDesign High we believe a new learning future is possible for young people on their journey to adulthood. We support learning characterized by heartfelt, joyful enquiry and authentic relationships, challenge and feedback.
SelfDesign High courses are uniquely oriented to:
- encourage independent thinking
- support and validate multiple intelligences and holistic learning
- enhance personal resourcefulness and wellness
- provide skills, knowledge and mentorship to support the needs of our present and future learning challenges
All of our SelfDesign High courses are certified by the B.C. Ministry of Education, and are free to youth that are residents of British Columbia. Our courses are peace-focused, flexible, learner-centered and continuously evolve through the engagement of learners and mentors. Many of our courses are *Waldorf inspired.
