Independent Studies Courses
Design your own course!
Independent Studies 10, 11 and 12 are courses initiated, designed and completed by learners, with the support of a teacher/mentor. The SelfDesign High Learning Community values self-directed, integrative learning that encourages supports and strengthens independent inquiry and thinking.
Of course there are things that you love doing, that you have been spending time on already, or perhaps things that have caught your attention and you want to dive into!
Our Independent Study courses are designed by you!
You choose the topic, the approach and how you will show your learning. You may already have a mentor, teacher or coach that you have been working with. They can continue to be involved with you, along with one of our SDH Mentors who will work with you to support your learning plan. The Mentor will also review your project and engage you in our Independent Study assessment process.
Independent studies is an option for elective courses only: the learner submits a plan to their mentor and together they agree on the focus, resources and outcome. A learner support of $125 is provided for a community mentor or curriculum.
